On a warm, sunny morning, nine members of the group turned out at the Barn. We identified two tasks that meant both groups could meet up for elevenses. So: The Cobbled Path was swept of dried leaves. 3 Steps were replaced on the Holly Path.   We also received briefing from the Council Ranger: The container issue is still ongoing and hopefully some news shortly. He would like to arrange a walk around the BEG area, to update the Management Plan The brambles, where we cleared the holly on Little Wood Bank, are starting to take hold. With his help,

Nine members met at the Barn on a very warm and sunny May morning.  The task was to clear grass around the saplings in the area by the Council wood store.  The spring sunshine has given a surge to grass and weed growth there.  After our break we went to the orchard where similar trimming was conducted and water carried (thanks to use of as  allotment source) to give the fruit trees and some of the small saplings in the “tree nursery” a much needed drink.  

On a cool but sunny morning twelve workers arrived. The first job was to move the newly delivered timber order into the Barn. Four of us of us joined two members of the Community Forestry team and some Greener Greenhill volunteers to plant and mulch 140 new Whips in Stone Cross Field. The rest went to the Nature Park and worked in the orchard cutting back overgrown brambles and saplings that were encroaching on the fruit and nut trees.Brambles were also cleared from around the Jubilee Tree which  is growing well and looking healthy. All the eleven folk who arrived today, went up to the Orchard. Initially, four of us planted some small trees that someone had left in pots in the Tree Nursery . They were added to the ones by the security fence. They then joined the others cutting back the growth at the back of the Orchard, where we had planted the nut trees. In the 10 years they have been there many had been hidden by brambles and other undergrowth.   During this activity, the two original labels in the photograph were found. On today’s warm, dry spring morning 12 of us met at the Barn, and split into two Groups: Five went to the Orchard and mulched all the Fruit Trees. Cataloguing, numbering and labelling all the trees has now begun. Once the definitive list is finished, we will distribute it. It was commented that the area at the top of the Orchard, where the nut trees are, would benefit from a clearance. If we all went up with loppers and shears, we would make short work of it.   The Eleven that turned out today split into four Groups We raked and seeded the area adjacent to the repaired Path, which had taken much wear & tear when the Path was in such a sorry state. We thought it wise to put the Tape around it, to give the Seed a chance to germinate. Thirteen of us met today and Groups went to both Ladies Spring and Park Bank Woods On a chilly morning in Ladies Spring Wood  a group of six was repairing revetments. Walking back via the Hall Grounds and the Cobbled Path, we did notice that the Golf Club are dumping debris that could eventually block the Path. The seven members of the Park Bank team worked on the top path , scraping mud and filling the area with stone and grit sand. Ten members arrived to work on a beautiful sunny Spring morning. We split up into three groups. Group 1 headed to Ladies Spring Wood to edge the paths with revetment. Group 2 worked in Shene Field cropping saplings and brambles.Group 3 spread the remaining surfacing material along the path behind the allotments leading into High Wood. 

Sixteen members turned out today to begin the laying of the surfacing material delivered last week. Unfortunately the Golf Course’s machinery broke down, so we had to barrow the material, which was extremely slow. So, after laying around half the material, and ensuring all the membrane was covered we finished. 

Fourteen of us, and our local Ranger, met a Community Forester today and received instructions on how to prune and manage the Trees in the Orchard. We also gave him a tour of the Woodland Meadow.  

Nine brave members turned up at the Barn on a cold and wet Monday.  It had been hoped that we would be receiving a delivery of surfacing but no information about it had been received so we live in hope. After some deliberation it was decided to abandon any work for the morning as everywhere was very wet in the steady rain.

Fourteen workers arrived today, which allowed us to split into four groups as follows: We began the repair to the Round Walk above the Abbey Pond. We left it with the Revetments in place in readiness for the hardcore , which we hope to have next week.
