Sunday 10 July 2022 On Sunday 10 July, Diana Holland (Chair of BEG) and myself completed a botanical survey of Gulley’s Meadow. Armed with a clip board with pen and paper and a flora to identify the species of plants we would come across, we set out along the left side of the meadow running parallel to the woods. It soon became apparent that many if not all species of plant had been affected by a relative lack of precipitation – visible signs such as shrivelled leaves and discoloration of the grasses. Saturday 28 May 2022 About 20 people, including three young children, turned up for our birdsong walk down Beauchief Drive. The weather was kind – blue sky and plenty of sunshine. We started off with the tinkly, energetic sound of goldfinches, a beautiful bird that has become more common in recent years. Robins sang cheerily at regular intervals. Blue tits and great tits chattered here and there. A blackbird called out in alarm as we approached, while another sang in the distance later on. Many of us saw as well as heard a nuthatch. 15 February 2022 Toby Pillatt of SCC Forestry Team, led and organised this event, which in spite of the rain and muddy conditions, was great fun, a huge success and seemed to be enjoyed by all.  In addition to familiar faces, it was good to see five members from Abbeydale Rotary Club (in high viz clothing), parents, grandparents, children aged from primary to secondary school, Greener Greenhill and Beauchief Environment Group followers. Saturday 5th February 2022 at Greenhill Library Eighteen members attended this year’s AGM, which was again held at Greenhill Library after a break of two years due to the Covid-19 restrictions. The evening opened with the formal AGM proceedings. The minutes of the 2020 AGM, held just before the lockdown, had been circulated and were approved. Damage to grass verges continues to be an issue. The Family Fun Day planned for Spring 2020 unfortunately had to be cancelled.
