Monday 6 October

Fourteen members of the Working Group arrived today with the following achieved:

A trip to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet for two, to assess the work they have asked us to do. Provisionally we will be working there Mondays 10th & 17th November .

Tony’s Steps were given some TLC, but more is needed; so we plan to return next week. When we got there, we saw that a tree had recently fallen across the bottom. It appears this was during Storm Amy, but a BEG supporter was quick to cut off the offending bits so free access to the Steps was restored. Many thanks.

Four stonewallers made a start on building the Hutcliffe Wood stone bench. They went back to the site of the new stone bench to find that the foundation stones they had placed two weeks ago had been mysteriously but carefully removed and set out in orderly fashion for rebuilding. It was suggested that our Local Community Officers had been around and, seeing some strange woodland excavations with stone slabs over, thought they might have stumbled upon a crime scene, i.e. shallow grave! Undeterred, the foundations were completed and an explaining-to-the-public sign was made and left at the site.

There are now 16 Alpacas grazing in Shene Field.
