Thirteen in all attended today. Five of the bench building team worked up at Stone Cross Field to repair the damage to the east and west benches caused by vandals during the weekend. The damage wasn’t too bad and was soon repaired. They then completed the benches to coverband, and finally added and cemented in the top stones. The four benches are now all complete providing seating around the sycamore tree to the north, south, east and west. We received many compliments and thanks from dog walkers.
Eight went to the Nature Park and trimmed around the fruit trees in the Orchard and began pulling docks in the Meadow. The apple, pear and plum trees are very fruitful, the cherry not so, and the nut trees, once again, are the healthiest looking but have not produced anything.
The Council has made a start mowing Gulley’s Wood Meadow. Their team were selecting areas to mow, chosen on whether or not the plants had flowered and seeded. They picked some Yellow Rattle, for transferring to Meersbrook Park. They intend to return and mow the whole Meadow in September as well as the Nature Park. The intention now is to mow both, twice a year, as they feel there is “too much grass.”
There is a new wooden Bench in Ladies Spring Wood, replaced by the Council recently.
